Installing Gentoo Linux: Part 1

Posted on Thursday, August 26th, 2004Saturday, March 17th, 2007 by Me

Yup, I’m actually going to go through with trying a stage1 Gentoo installation. I figure that would help me learn more about Linux and get a completely custom installation.

I downloaded the x86 universal install CD in case my wireless card doesn’t work for installation and I have to do a stage 3 install. Hopefully, that won’t be the case.

Ummm… what else? Oh, I read the beginning of the manual, up to the part where it tells you what to do after you put in the live CD.

I’m not quite ready yet. I still need to backup all my stuff from my laptop to my PC since I plan on getting rid of Windows on my laptop completely. I hope this is the last version of Linux I’ll ever install, too. So far I’ve tried SuSE live, Knoppix, Lindows live, Mandrake 8.0, and Red Hat, but I want something I can customize from the install, down to every single detail. 😛

I’ll hopefully start installing/compiling tomorrow night.
