Gentoo Install: Bootstrapping

Posted on Friday, August 27th, 2004Saturday, March 17th, 2007 by Me

Well, Knoppix is working well as a live CD for installing Gentoo. I had some problems with it detecting my CD-ROM drive as 2nd hard drive/partition at first. So I looked up some stuff and found I had to boot up Knoppix using Knoppix nodma… and that worked. 😀

It detected my wireless card and now I’m up to part 6c of my Gentoo installation… bootstrapping… or building the necessary stuff so that I can compile whatever I want to put into Gentoo. It might take a while, so I’m glad I’m using Knoppix as a live CD because I can use other stuff while my install does its stuff. 🙂

I hope this install is worth it. I’d hate to have to go through all of this work to install a new OS just to end up back on Windows again.:P
