As you can probably tell, I use WordPress for my blog.
I used to have problems with getting spam in my comments, so I went and started to disable people from posting any comments at all. But I didn’t want to have to go back and edit all of my posts. So, instead, I looked for some anti-spam solutions. This was back when I still had WP 1.2.1. I found some blacklisting features, but still found that it wasn’t enough to stop the comment spam.
Starting with WP 2.0, the Akismet spam filter has been integrated into the default install of WordPress. All you need to activate it is to get an API key by registering at wordpress.com. It works and it works very well! It’s just as effective as the built-in spam filters in Thunderbird and in Gmail. Simply put, it’s awesome.
If you’re getting comment spam and you don’t already have the latest WordPress and an Akismet API key, do yourself a favor and upgrade your blog and get your key today. Akismet really works! All your spam will be filtered and deleted automatically after 15 days.
