Wow, it’s still there!

One of the first websites I ever made is still up, sort of, after so many years. There’s nothing to see there since the index page just says there’s nothing there, but there’s still other stuff beyond the main index page. I even still remember my login info. According to freeservers, it’s been up for 472 weeks now!! That’s more than 9 years! Amazing that this thing has been there since 1999!

The first actual site I made is long gone. It used to be on homestead.com and then someone else managed to take over the name I had somehow – I think after I moved to using freeservers, homestead cancelled my account after some period of inactivity. I used a bunch of other free hosts too like 50megs, but even those accounts are gone.

I looked through my file manager on freeserver and found some old pictures that just bring back a bunch of memories. Like this picture…

Wow, that seems like so long ago!

It’s also neat to think of how far the internet has come since then. Funny to see plain old static HTML pages – I wouldn’t even call it web 1.0… it’s more like web 0.1. :-P And now we’ve gone from static to dynamic websites and all kinds of cool AJAXified sites that work like desktop applications. And it’s just a lot more interactive now than it was before. It’s pretty amazing how technology has changed in just 9 years.

Looking at an old site just makes me want to just make a site just for fun again and not really care how it all looks. Maybe I’ll do that sometime.
