Way back in 1999, or whenever it was that I first taught myself HTML, I noticed a trend with the colors I would work with. Most of my pages used some shade of blue. I wanted to try to get away from blue, so I started to work with other colors.
It seems like a lot of websites I visit use blue. For example, Meebo, MySpace, Microsoft, Merriam-Webster, the WordPress default theme,
GameFAQs, Amazon, etc. Why is it that a lot of sites use blue? Maybe it’s because it’s such an easy color to work with. I don’t really know, but I’m getting tired of seeing blue sites everywhere.
It’s very refreshing to see sites that use other color schemes. Especially the really bold sites that dare to use colors like yellow or orange. Some of them just pull them off so well.
It’s too bad that most of the sites that I visit on a daily basis are stuck in a blue rut.
