On my way to having super powers!

Posted on Sunday, March 20th, 2005Monday, March 21st, 2005 by Me

Well, at least a super power memory. 😛

I finished the chapters on the link and peg systems in the book I’m reading, How to Develop a Super-Power Memory. I retook test one and test two that were at the beginning of the book and my memory seems to have improved a bit. 🙂

The first test involved memorizing 15 words. My original score was 50/75 and my score after reading the link system chapter was 75/75. The second test was memorizing 20 words; my initial score was 45/100 and after reading the chapter on the peg system, it was 100/100. 😀

Though right now, I don’t really see how this can help me to remember ideas, definitions, or foreign languages. I can only see myself using the two memory aids I’ve learned so far for remembering to-do lists, phone numbers, the main points in a speech, and other types of lists. I guess I’ll have to keep on reading to see what other memory aids there are.

Some of the concepts in this book seem kind of outdated. Well, that’s to be expected since this book is pretty old. I do have the newer The Memory Book but I don’t feel like going through my boxes in the garage to get it… I should’ve read it before I packed it away so that I could REMEMBER exactly which box it’s in. 😆 Anyway, the tests in this book always seem to use the words typewriter, television set, book, telephone, cigarette. You could tell it was written before there were PC’s and cell phones and such. I don’t know if Harry Lorayne is a smoker or not, but the word cigarette sure comes up a lot… maybe back when this was written, everybody smoked cigarettes because they didn’t know about the health risks of smoking.

Eh, anyway, I want to do a little bit of review… you can skip this next part entirely since it probably won’t make sense to anyone reading this unless you’ve read either How to Develop a Super-Power Memory or The Memory Book. If you do read these 25 words, you might be able to figure out some kind of pattern with the words and numbers. 😉
