This time, I’m referring to websites. It’s good to have a fresh, new look every once in a while. I don’t mean every day – that would be overkill. But if your website has had the same design and mostly same content on its home page that it had 5 years ago, you might want to try something new so that your visitors know that your site isn’t outdated and that you really still care about it.
Especially if you’re trying to make money with your website by selling some sort of product or service. If it looks like a site hasn’t been maintained in long time, I would think that it’s been abandoned and I wouldn’t give you my credit card information at all since I wouldn’t be sure if I would get the product or service that I paid for.
I think sites like digg and slashdot can get away with having a design that doesn’t change (even though both sites have made some design changes) because their content is always different. And they’re not really selling anything either.
I just think it’s always refreshing to see when a site has a new look. Usually, it’s way better than it was previously. It’s kind of like when your favorite TV show gets new intro credits. I love it.
This wasn’t a really random post. A couple of sites that I visit have just changed their looks and I think they’re awesome. So I just thought I’d post about it. 😛
