This stuff was originally from my Web Hosting Reviews lens on Squidoo, but that got a little long, so I decided to move some of it here as individual posts.
portland.co.uk was my very first domain host ever. I chose it because it was free and had no ad banners.
You only get 15 MB of space, but back then that was more than enough for me to mess around with. These were the days when most websites were static, using plain old HTML and no dynamic content at all. I used this to host images for my signature files on Delphi Forums (which I used a lot back in the late 1990’s to early 2000’s).
I had no downtime issues at all with this host, but I outgrew it after awhile.
It looks like they still offer a free package. I would only recommend this host if you’re just learning how to write HTML/XHTML and actually want to see your pages online instead of just on your own computer.
