For the longest time, we’ve been getting calls to our landline number for some guy named Larry Evans. The guy doesn’t live here, quit calling us. We mostly just get calls from his dentist every once in a while, but I answered their call last time and told them they had the wrong number. They’ll probably still end up calling again the next time he has an appointment.
Recently, we’ve gotten a bunch of calls from Time Warner Cable’s retention department. The calls don’t say who they’re for, but definitely not for us because we don’t even subscribe to Time Warner, we’re Cox customers, thankyouverymuch.
It’s just an auto dialer, so there’s no real person to talk to. I picked it up when it called a few days ago and pressed # to connect to their retention department and that just ended up getting a busy signal and hanging up on me. Grrr. Since I answered it and didn’t let the machine get it, I didn’t get a chance to write down the phone number to call them.
The dialer called back again today. I wrote down the number before I tried pressing # again to connect. Luckily, I was able to get through instead of getting the busy signal again. I talked to the CSR and he asked me for the phone number of my account, I told him, “I don’t have an account, but we keep getting calls here.” So he asked for the phone number that was being called, and I gave it to him.
And then the next thing he asked was, “You don’t know who Larry Evans is?” There’s that Larry Evans name again… who the hell is this guy? Obviously, some guy who doesn’t know his own phone number and gives out ours. Maybe he does have this number, but just a different area code, who knows? I’ve even looked up Larry Evans in the phone book, but he’s not in there and none of the Evans, L. names even look remotely similar to our phone number at all. I could probably Google him (my Google skills are awesome – I can usually find anything I’m looking for, but I’ll save that for another post), but I don’t really feel like it.
Anyway, the Time Warner CSR took our number off the dialer, so hopefully that stops those annoying calls.
I get wrong number calls to my cell phone a lot too. They’re always for whoever Mr. & Mrs. Murray are. A lot of these wrong number calls usually have angry sounding people calling. I sure wouldn’t want to be Larry Evans or Mr. & Mrs. Murray because it sounds like they’ve got troubles… like billing/financial kinds of troubles. I guess that’s one good thing about them being wrong numbers because if they were for me, then I’d be in trouble.
