Netbooks = bad for posture?

Posted on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 by Me

I forgot to write about this in my last post and it was inspired by this picture taken by Hak5‘s Darren Kitchen, which is an awesome show, BTW, so watch it… you can even tune in live on hakhouse.com! Anyway, here’s a link to the picture comparing netbook (Paul on the right) vs notebook (Matt on the left) posture.

This is something I’ve noticed myself since using my EEE as my main PC. I’m hunched over a whole lot more than when I used to use my Dell 600m. The 600m screen was a whole lot bigger and closer to eye level, so I’d sit in a more natural, comfortable position.

I still love my EEE, but this posture thing isn’t good for my back. My posture isn’t that great to begin with, but I think using the EEE more will make it even worse.

That’s just one more thing for you to consider if you’re in the market for a netbook. Of course, carrying a heavy notebook in a backpack might also contribute to bad posture as well.

    As much as I want to be a one laptop guy — a netbook in my case — I’m having major problems with this too. They’re great in a pinch. Heck I was doing photoshop on my aspire one just today! But the picture speaks for itself.

    It wasn’t as bad for me on my 12″ dell but that guy weighs 6 lbs.

    If only macbook airs were a mere $400!

    Cheers,
    D
