Prosperity game is on hiatus…

I’m putting the prosperity game on a bit of a hiatus for now. The reason why is because I’m focusing my time this month on completing Ed Dale’s Thirty Day Challenge, check it out at thirtydaychallenge.com and leave a comment if you’d like to team up!

For those who don’t know, the 30DC is a free internet marketing course aimed at teaching anyone how to make their first dollar on the internet using free methods. This will be my third year participating in the challenge.

I started in 2007, but failed to make my dollar (it was actually a $10 goal that year, I think) due to the gtrends method absolutely devastating the niches I came up with. And most of my team pretty much dropped off due to not being able to find the needle in the haystack niche that met the requirements to continue on.

In 2008, I gave it another shot, but was out of town during the start of the challenge. I did end up buying a copy of Market Samurai though because I saw it as an extremely invaluable tool. I didn’t join any teams last year and ended up lagging behind and not actually finishing even though I continued to watch the videos just to see what was being taught.

So, now we’re three days into 2009’s challenge, it’s actually the fourth day of August that I’m typing this, but day 4 content isn’t up yet.

The goal for the first three days is to find a micro-niche with at least:

80 SEO traffic per day
less than 30,000 competing pages
at least 15% PBR
at least 3 category keywords
and a decent SEO competition matrix

So far, I’ve been able to find a few that meet some of the criteria, but not all of the above. For instance, I’ll find a really good microniche that meets everything except for having some category phrases that I can target as well. Or I’ll find one that has all of the above except the SEO competition matrix is a bit more competitive than I hoped it would be.

But, compared to 2007’s challenge, I’ve already saved so much time by being able to eliminate a lot of niche ideas and we’re only three days into the month! In 2007, it was around 15 days into the challenge before we could decide whether to continue on with keywords we’ve chosen. I still have a ton of ideas to go through that I wrote down during my trip to the local Barnes & Noble, so it’s time to get back to doing that!

I’m currently not in a team at the moment, so like I said at the beginning of this post, leave a comment if you’d like to team up for this year’s 30DC!
